A slow, swaying camel ride through the fairy-chimney valleys around Göreme: at sunrise with hot air balloons drifting overhead, or at sunset as the rock turns gold.
from €60 · Next available November 1
Long before tour buses, Cappadocia was crossed by camel caravans. The Silk Road ran across this plateau, and the Seljuks lined it with stone caravanserais roughly a day's journey apart. The Saruhan inn near Avanos and Ağzıkarahan on the Aksaray road still stand.
The ride brings back that rhythm. Your camel kneels, you climb into a padded saddle, and the caravan rises and sets off through the valleys at the pace of a slow walk. At sunrise the sky fills with hot air balloons; at sunset the tuff cliffs glow pink and gold. Handlers stay with the caravan the whole way, so all you need to do is hold on, look around and take the photos.

The Silk Road through Cappadocia

No. The camels are calm and used to guests, and handlers lead the caravan the whole way. You only need to hold on, especially when the camel stands up and kneels down.
Sunrise is the one with the hot air balloons overhead (on days they fly), cooler air and an early start. Sunset has warmer light and a later start. Both use the same valleys.
Yes. Young children usually share a camel with a parent. Tell us their ages when you book so the team can plan the saddles.
A camel's movements when it stands and kneels are sudden. The ride isn't recommended during pregnancy or for guests with back or spine problems; if you're unsure, ask us before booking.
About an hour and half in the saddle through Göreme's valleys, at sunrise with the balloons or at sunset, with hotel pickup included.
Plan your tour for a different day from your sunrise balloon flight, or for the afternoon of your flight day, so you’re never rushed.

Collected from your hotel and driven to the camel base in the valleys around Göreme.
A short briefing from the handlers, then your camel kneels so you can climb into the saddle.
Set off in a slow caravan between fairy chimneys and vineyards, with the handlers walking alongside.
Pause at a viewpoint for the moment you came for: balloons rising at sunrise, or the valleys turning gold at sunset.
Back at the base, your camel kneels again for a last round of photos.
Dropped back at your hotel.
Wear comfortable trousers and closed shoes. Not recommended during pregnancy or for guests with back problems.
The camel ride goes ahead. Balloon flights depend on the wind and are approved each morning, so a sky full of balloons can never be guaranteed, but the valleys at dawn are beautiful either way.
