Best mornings to fly

How the flight outlook works
Each morning gets a flight score from 0 to 100. Green means conditions look ideal, amber is borderline and red means a flight is unlikely. The outlook is a forecast guide, not a guarantee. Your operator makes the final call on the day.
- 80–100Likely to flyLight winds and clear visibility in the forecast, the kind of morning most operators launch on.
- 50–79BorderlineConditions are marginal. Flights may go, but expect a later call from your operator on the day.
- 0–49UnlikelyStrong wind or poor visibility forecast. If your flight is canceled for weather, your deposit is refunded in full.
How our forecast model works
The score is produced by a rule engine calibrated on the FAA Balloon Flying Handbook, aviation weather minimums and Cappadocia’s official flight records. It weighs the factors that actually ground balloons:
Wind is the deciding factor
Calm mornings up to about 11 km/h are ideal. Around 18–22 km/h is the real-world cancellation band in Cappadocia, and any forecast in that range is capped firmly in the “unlikely” tier.
Gusts and gust spread
A calm average with sharp gusts is the classic trap. A large gap between average wind and gusts grounds flights even when the headline number looks fine.
Sunrise fog risk
Cold, humid, still mornings breed radiation fog exactly at launch time. The model combines temperature, humidity, wind and sky cover to flag it.
Visibility and rain
Aviation minimums require clear sight lines, and meaningful rain usually signals fronts and wind shear. Both push the score down quickly.
How accurate is it?
Over the last 90 days, the morning forecast we published the evening before matched the official fly/no-fly decision on 83% of the 53 days with a confirmed outcome. We count days, not forecasts (several forecasts for one day still count once), and we publish the number as it updates, with no cherry-picking.
The score never goes above 95. Mountain weather can always surprise, so the model never claims certainty.
Thresholds are calibrated against the FAA Balloon Flying Handbook, aviation visibility minimums and Cappadocia’s official flight decisions.
How the official decision works
Decided at sunrise
The flight authority issues its decision early each morning, shortly before launch time. Evening announcements for the next day are rare.
Sector flags
Cappadocia’s launch area is split into sectors (A, B, C and numbered zones). Each gets a green, yellow or red flag: green means cleared, red means closed.
Future dates show only cancellations
For upcoming days the board only ever publishes cancellations, never approvals. So “no cancellation” for tomorrow is normal. It does not mean the flight is confirmed yet.
Pilots have the final say
Even on a green morning, the pilot and operator make the final call at the launch site based on live wind readings.
Frequently asked questions
Are hot air balloons flying in Cappadocia today?
Check the live status at the top of this page. It mirrors the official flight board that clears or cancels every Cappadocia balloon flight. If no cancellation is shown, the final decision is made at sunrise.
What time is the flight decision made?
The official decision is issued early in the morning, around sunrise, just before launch. Operators then confirm pickups with their guests.
Is tomorrow’s flight confirmed?
No future flight is ever “confirmed”. The board only publishes cancellations ahead of time, and approvals are issued on the morning itself. Use our 5-day flight outlook to judge the odds.
Why do balloon flights get canceled in Cappadocia?
Wind is the main reason: flights are typically grounded when winds reach roughly 18–22 km/h or gusts spike, and also for fog, rain or poor visibility. Safety rules are strict and apply to all operators equally.
Where does this data come from?
From the official Cappadocia flight board (SHM Kapadokya), refreshed every 30 minutes, combined with our own weather model for the 5-day flight outlook.
What happens if my flight is canceled?
Weather cancellations are refunded in full. We do not move you to another date automatically: a new morning is a new booking at the price available then, and we are happy to help you find one.
What does the flight outlook mean?
It estimates how likely a flight is to take off that morning, based on forecast wind, visibility and precipitation. Higher is better, but the operator confirms on the day.
Can I book the best day directly?
Yes. Tap any morning in the 5-day strip to go straight to that flight and send a reservation request.
Why are some days marked “no flights”?
That morning has no bookable seats yet. Flights may be sold out or not yet released. Try a nearby morning or search other dates.
