旋转舞仪式（Sema）始于梅夫拉纳·贾拉鲁丁·鲁米的追随者。鲁米是13世纪科尼亚的诗人和神秘主义者，科尼亚位于此地以西，开车几个小时即到。对梅夫拉维教团来说，它不是舞蹈，而是一种忆念。旋转舞者（semazen）右掌张开朝向天空，左掌转向大地，一边承接，一边传递。联合国教科文组织已将梅夫拉维旋转舞仪式列入人类非物质文化遗产。
在卡帕多奇亚，仪式通常在萨鲁汉商队驿站举行。驿站建于1249年，当年是丝绸之路商队的停靠站。石砌拱顶下，芦笛（ney）响起，旋转舞者躬身行礼，脱下黑色斗篷，四段“致意”（selam）的缓慢旋转随之开始。全场不鼓掌，也不交谈，只有音乐和白色长裙的沙沙声。这一小时，会在您心里停留很久。

The ceremony opens with a chanted eulogy, the beat of the kudüm drum and a solo on the reed ney.
The dervishes greet one another, remove their black cloaks and begin to turn through the four selams.
A recitation from the Qur'an and a closing prayer end the ceremony in silence.

Not while the dervishes are turning: the sema is a form of prayer and phones break the silence. Some venues allow a few photos at the very end; the team will tell you on the night.
It's a ceremony. The Mevlevi sema is a spiritual practice, so it's watched in silence and without applause, which is exactly what makes it so moving.
Usually at the Saruhan Caravanserai, a 13th-century Seljuk inn a few kilometres from Avanos. The exact venue and pickup time are confirmed in your booking.
Children are welcome if they can sit quietly for about an hour. For very young children the ceremony can feel long.
Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, plus a light layer: the stone hall can be cool in the evening, even in summer.
